Time:
At 6pm tonight (and on the second Wednesday of each month) we will again be screening a free spiritual movies at the Roseville New Church (4 Shirley Road, Roseville NSW).
Movies are selected based on a spiritual theme or by film-makers who were influenced by Emanuel Swedenborg’s writings.
Tonight we are screening a classic spiritual movie called “Meetings With Remarkable Men” based on the semi-biographical story by George Ivanovich Gurdjieff, adaptated and directed by Peter Brook. It presents an account of Gurdjieff’s early life as a seeker of hidden knowledge, describing his encounters with a series of unusual, disciplined, and inwardly developed individuals (“remarkable men”) across the Middle East and Central Asia. Through these relationships and travels, the work portrays the idea that genuine wisdom is preserved in small, often hidden traditions and must be actively sought through effort, observation, and inner transformation, rather than inherited from conventional religion or culture, with the overall message that awakening to higher consciousness depends on exposure to such influences combined with persistent personal work. Although advertised as a Gurdjieff’s auto-biography, he littered it with much symbolism about aspects of spiritual work on oneself. David Hykes also makes an appearance in the film’s soundtrack with his amazing harmonic chanting.
Join us to enjoy some free Popcorn, Jaffas, and Maltesers and drinks along with the movie.
Look forward to seeing you at these Roseville New Church movie nights on the second Wednesday of each month.
