Time:
At 6pm tonight (and on the second Wednesday of each month) we will again be screening a free spiritual movies at the Roseville New Church (4 Shirley Road, Roseville NSW).
Movies are selected based on a spiritual theme or by film-makers who were influenced by Emanuel Swedenborg’s writings.
Tonight we are screening a spiritual documentary called “When the Snake Bites the Sun,” based on an indigenous story and name of a film produced by the late Michael Edols. Tonight’s screening is in honour of the Galangala Project. While film maker Michael Edols was blowing on embers of the previous night’s campfire, he was told by an elder that reigniting the embers was called ‘galangala.’ In the same way, the Galangala Project aims to reignite Aboriginal culture. This work creates a heritage which is a cornerstone and chance for beneficial healing and embracing their birthright with dignity. While Michael was in the Kimberley region using film to document the Methodist Mission Educational work, he found himself invited to tell the story from the other side of the fence, because indigenous elders saw that film was a powerful means to ensure the future of their cultural stories, which were no longer able to be transmitted along ancestral lines. This footage is an edited condensation of Michael’s several films that documented tribal life and indigenous culture. His work is now held by the Australian Film and Television School as a rare and important set of cultural documentation.
Join us to enjoy some free Popcorn, Jaffas, and Maltesers and drinks along with the movie.
Look forward to seeing you at these Roseville New Church movie nights on the second Wednesday of each month.
