We are delighted to welcome back internationally renowned shakuhachi master Riley Lee as one of the Six masters, steeped in centuries of Japanese tradition. That should make one extraordinary evening of shakuhachi music, a rare Shakuhachi Masters Concert at Roseville New Church, 4 Shirley Rd, Roseville NSW 2069.

Put the date in your diary: Friday, 11 September, 2026 from 6:30PM - 8:00PM (Sydney time). Doors open from 6:30pm, the concert commences at 7pm and concludes at 8pm.

Presented by The Australian Shakuhachi Society, this is a rare gathering of leading Japanese and Australian performers of the shakuhachi - the evocative Japanese bamboo flute.

Hear traditional solo repertoire, ensemble music and contemporary works brought to life by Teruo Furuya, Kazushi Matama, and Kaoru Kakizakai from Japan, together with Riley Lee, Bronwyn Kirkpatrick and Lindsay Dugan from Australia.

They will be joined by special guest Satsuki Odamura, performing on koto.

Spanning centuries of tradition and the living possibilities of the instrument today, this concert offers a unique opportunity to experience the depth, power and subtle beauty of Japanese music in the hands of some of its foremost performers.

Presented thanks to the Australian Shakuhachi Festival 2026, held prior to the concert in Maroochydore, QLD from 3-6 September.
