Dr Groves readings sessions are currently on hold until again requested by participants.
Swedenborg Open Discussions will from 14th April 2026 be held weekly on Tuesdays and will start at 11am instead of 2pm, and the sessions will be 2 hours from now on. We found that one hour goes by very quickly, and there seems always more to explore. But you are always free to leave after one hour if you feel that is enough for you.
As Rev Howard Thompson and Debra prepare to return to the USA in June, bible studies are being replaced by making the Tuesday Swedenborg Discussions weekly starting from 14th April 2026. These discussions are open format and therefore can easily (and often do) include questions about the Word (the Bible and its spiritual inner sense). So bible topics can continue to be explored on Tuesdays as part of the discussion event.
But Howard will continue to upload his weekly videos on his YouTube channel “Spiritual Shorts”. The channel is reaching a growing audience well beyond our local community. Each week features a 5-minute Sunday message summary, a 1-minute inspirational reflection, and a deeper exploration of Heaven and Hell. If you haven’t already, take a look! click here to be taken to the Spiritual Shorts YouTube Channel
** What if an event is missing?
If events are not listed in the calendar, it is generally because something else if happening at the Centre or because staff are away, so assume that the event is not on if not listed. Apologies for any inconvenience caused by any inconsistency of regular events. We look forward to seeing you on the next occasion.
Feel free to check with us if you think the omission might be in error, which rarely but sometimes happens, but you will usually receive the above reason as a response (it’s not on for any of a number of possible legitimate or unforseen reasons). Make the assumption that the online listing of events on this website is the most up to date and accurate indication of events and activities happening at the Centre.
** Current event topics?
The weekly Wednesday Swedenborg reading sessions are exploring a powerful small work of Swedenborg called De Verbo (about “The Word”), which is proving to be very enjoyable and useful. After that we will most likely look at the four key teachings of Swedenborg (on life, on faith, on the scriptures, and on the Lord), and then will look at usefulness (charity), and read Heaven and Hell. Join in and help us decide or contribute your favourite topic.
Do join in the illuminating weekly Swedenborg Discussion on Tuesdays at 11am. In this exploration, bring whatever topic you wish to explore. Normally the open discussion covers any relevant spiritual teachings and seeing how they relate to our modern lives. Subjects range across various religious wisdom traditions, such as the Hindu Advaita Vedanta tradition, Shin Buddhism, and the Fourth Way of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky, among other practices and traditions, seeing how they all enrich Swedenborg’s way of stating things. Seeing reality expressed from different perspectives is often very benefitial and enriching.
The monthly movies are still being discussed. The licence needs renewing and it has been harder so far this year to find a regular presentation time. New suitable titles are also still being explored.
Don’t forget that Monday Meditations are facilitated in the Roseville New Church every Monday morning at 10am by Kathryn Baker. In today’s ever-changing, fast-paced and sometimes overwhelming life, meditation offers a gentle respite - anopportunity to re-centre, quieten the mind and become more aware of the comforting presence of the Divine. Even a short time of stillness can soften anxiety, renew focus, and deepen our capacity to love and serve.
We hope you feel like joining some of these rich conversations. They are mostly a relaxed mixture of reading and spiritual reflection, or topical discussion and exploration of our own lives. We also have a lot of fun along the way.
See you soon.
Enjoy! Joe
